La finale di Champions League disputata sabato 1° Giugno allo stadio Wanda Metropolitano di Madrid è stata una partita piena di suspence. Il Liverpool che partiva favorito è riuscito infine a conquistare l’ambito trofeo portando il tabellino delle sue personali coppe a sei. La squadra di Klopp gioca una finale esteticamente brutta ma vincente.
Questa finale si decide con un episodio incredibile a pochi secondi dall'inizio della partita. Il Liverpool partito all’attacco lancia più volte la sfera nella metà campo del Tottenham nel tentativo di generare pericoli immediati. Più che una precisa tattica sembra un modo per esorcizzare la paura degli uomini di Klopp nei confronti di una partita così importante. Il Liverpool si presenta a Madrid avendo perso il campionato lottando fino alla fine ma la sconfitta rimane. Arrivare secondi in due competizioni differenti lo stesso anno non piace a nessuno. Mané addomestica uno dei palloni lanciati in attacco e dentro l’area di rigore prova una cross tagliente sul secondo palo. La palla non fa in tempo ad alzarsi che impatta contro il petto e il braccio largo dell'accorrente Sissoko. L’arbitro decide per il calcio di rigore. Salah ha la possibilità di mettere in discesa la partita e la finale e così fa realizzando un rigore centrale e potente. Il Liverpool trovandosi in vantaggio al 2’ minuto di gioco decide di dedicarsi al risparmio delle energie. Non attacca, pressa il giusto e controlla. Il Tottenham è meritevole nel non perdere la testa dopo il gol subito ma non riesce nel corso della partita ad organizzare azioni offensive degne di nota.
Gli Spurs sprecano il primo tempo e buona parte del secondo trovandosi con pochi minuti di vita provano attacchi confusi ed imprecisi. Il Liverpool trova nel frattempo il gol che chiude i giochi. Origi insacca un bel 2-0 e chiude i conti. Liverpool campione d’Europa!
