L'ex difensore di Barcellona e Juventus ha rivelato la notizia in un post su Instagram, in cui ha spiegato che stava chiudendo un altro capitolo della sua carriera. Il 36enne è entrato in PSG dalla Juventus nel 2017 e ha vinto due titoli della Ligue 1 nella capitale francese anche se la squadra ha fallito nell'obiettivo di vincere la Champions League. Alves era stato preso con la speranza di aggiungere qualità ed esperienza alla squadra, avendo sollevato il trofeo tre volte con il Barca nel 2009, 2011 e 2015. I campioni di Francia sono stati eliminati dal Manchester United negli ottavi la scorsa stagione, costringendo il club a rimandare la possibilità di giocarsi la finale tanto ricercata. Alcune delle parole del brasiliano: "Oggi chiudo un altro ciclo nella mia vita, un ciclo di vittoria, apprendimento ed esperienze", ha scritto Alves in una lunga dichiarazione.
Ha messo a segno 73 presenze nelle sue due stagioni per il PSG segnando otto gol. "Vorrei ringraziare la famiglia PSG per l'opportunità di costruire insieme una pagina nella storia di questo club. "Vorrei ringraziare tutto lo staff per il loro affetto, rispetto e complicità fin dal primo giorno”. Adesso il club dovrà sostituire la presenza carismatica del brasiliano sul campo.
